Kashmir Law College was founded by the erstwhile Shadab Educational Trust and is now incorporated under the Companies Act, 2013 as SHADAB FOUNDATION FOR EDUCATION AND CHARITY, to impart quality legal education to meet the challenges of globalization. Although there is a Law department in the University of Kashmir, yet the erstwhile Shadab Educational Trust took a bold decision to introduce the first law college in the private sector in Srinagar city, located at Nowshera which is about 8 Kilometres away from the District Court Complex, Srinagar. The College is in close proximity of the University of Kashmir and Institute of Medical Science, Soura. It has a beautiful campus spread over an area of 8 Kanals of land. The College is now permanently affiliated with the University of Kashmir and recognised by the Bar Council of India. The College has maintained a steady progress in terms of academic growth and expansion. The College is approved by the Bar Council of India for imparting Legal Education and has also been recognised by UGC under Section 2 (f) and Section 12(B) of the UGC Act, 1956. The college focuses on applied legal education which develops the frontiers of knowledge that is relevant to the Students as practitioners in public institutions and society at large. The college was established with the objective to prepare the professionals who acquire the power of clear thinking, accurate analysis and cogent expression. The college offers quality legal education using multifaceted pedagogy with an effective interface with law to translate the mission into action. The college has a vibrant, qualified and experienced teaching faculty supported by very senior guest faculty members. It creates opportunity for its students to enhance their understanding of economic, social and political environment, to enlarge their ability not only to adjust the change but to work as a catalyst and to develop their power to conceptualize, decide and communicate. PRINCIPAL’S DESK In the changing globalized market economy education is getting internationalized and the concept of territorial boundaries is breaking down. Information technology is contributing to this change and will have a major impact on the whole educational system. The Indian legal profession has introduced a sea-change in the field of legal education in order to accommodate the emerging legal developments and trends to facilitate aspiring law students with new dimensions to compete with the knowledge and skills of the foreign lawyers for its own survival. Present day legal profession requires lawyers to represent clients not only within but also outside its national frontiers. The Working Group of National Knowledge Commission is also of the same opinion that the aim of legal education should be to create lawyers who are comfortable and skilled in dealing with the differing legal systems and cultures that make up our global community while remaining strong in one’s own national legal system. Kashmir Law College is fully equipped with adequate facilities including competent and experienced faculty, well equipped library, computer Labs and other learning infrastructure for conducting LL.B and BA. CHAIRPERSON’S MESSAGE Realizing the growing need for competent lawyers, The Kashmir Law College started LL.B three and five years B.A.LL.B integrated programmes in 2005 and 2007 of respectively. The programmes have been designed to impart legal education and training in modern legal professional techniques to develop competence, skill and attitude in budding lawyers. The stringent admission process ensures selection of motivated and meritorious students. The college is one of the premier colleges of the State engaged in imparting quality legal education.
